You often hear that the goal of blackjack is to get as close to 21 points as possible. Not true. Your goal as a player is to win the seller.

If you have 12 points and the dealer buys himself ‘dead’, you will win, even if you are not close to 21 points.

The First Blackjack Rules

We start with the basics. This is followed by an explanation of several special circumstances.

The basics of Blackjack

Blackjack rules is played on one or more deck of cards (the deck has 52 cards). Like most online casinos in the Dutch casino, they play with six floors.

It’s easy to remember the value of the cards of blackjack rules:

  • Ace: 1 or 11 points
  • King, Queen, Jack (‘pictures’) ፡ 10 points
  • The remaining cards have the same value as the number on the card.

The card suit is no problem in blackjack. It doesn’t matter if the cards are clubs, spades, diamonds or hearts.

There is always someone at the table holding the cards in blackjack. This is called a distributor or ‘bank’. All players at the blackjack table play with the bank. So they do not play with each other.

Bet and the first sub-round

Before the dealer starts accepting the cards in blackjack rules, you place your bet, for example of blackjack rules, 10 euros. When all the players bet on the table, the dealer gives everyone two cards. These are open at the table, visible to everyone.

The bank also deals two cards, only one of which is dealt.

The cards are 16 points after the first round of deals, and the bank has A4. NB In some casinos the bank accepts an open card. There the bank only gives a second card to all the players when they finish their game.

Do you have blackjack?

Your first two cards are Ace and 10 or face, so 21 points together? Then you have ‘blackjack’.

They win 1.5 times right away. If you earn 10 euros, you now have a total of 25 euros.

Blackjack? You will then immediately win your bet 1.5 times.

It’s your turn

In blackjack rules, the players then follow one by one, starting with the player to the left of the dealer (as shown to the right of the players).

It’s your turn and the dealer in the casino shouts out how many points your two cards have. For example, if you have Ace and 6, the dealer says “seven or seventeen.” At online casinos and blackjack, you will see the number of points next to the cards.

You now have three choices:

  1. To pass : You will not get any more cards and save your two cards based on blackjack rules.
  2. Tap : You get more cards from the seller. This is also called a ‘purchase card’. The seller will now announce your new point. You can then choose again to pick up or pass the card. You can buy as many tickets as you want.
  3. You have decided to pass Or
  4. Your total score is over 21. Then you ‘die’ and the round ends. You have lost your bet.

24 points is too much to mourn ‘dead’ and you lose your bet.

  1. Double / Double Down : You double your first bet and the dealer gives you one more card. You will no longer receive any more cards. For example, if you have 11 points, this might be a smart choice. Then you have a good chance of making the next card 10, which gives you 21 points.

In some casinos, you can only double your first two cards if they have 9, 10 or 11 points. In online blackjack you can often double the points on any number.

But beware: you can always double only after the first two cards. You do not have to double up later in the game. And every time you double your bet, you only get one card.

Two identical cards? You can divide

If you have two cards of the same value in blackjack rules, for example two sevens or a jack and 10, you have an additional option: split.

If you want to split the cards, you make your main bet once. The dealer deals two cards and gives you a second card for each card. So now you have two hands with two cards each. You can manually decide to turn, hit, or turn.

You can now split your two nine-card cards.

Once you have added your original bet, you will receive a new card every nine days. Bank Game Round

When all the players have their turn, it’s the bank’s turn.

The bank will now open the second card. If the two cards are worth 16 points or less, the bank must add one card. This will continue until the bank has 17 points or more.

Out of 17 points, the bank must pass. Although the bank Ace and 6. The Ace in this case always counts for 11 points.

If the bank is above 21 points, the bank is dead.

These rules are permanent in blackjack. Therefore, the dealer cannot decide for himself whether or not to buy an additional card.

The bank can never be divided or doubled.

Payment: Win or lose

Next in blackjack rules, if the bank dies, all players in the game will win.

If the bank does not buy itself dead, you will win if you have more points than the bank.

In both cases, you win your bet 1 time. If you earn 10 euros, you now have a total of 20 euros.

The bank has 17 points and must pass. You win by 18 points. Unless you win with a blackjack. You will receive 1.5 times your bet as mentioned earlier.

Do you have as many points as the bank? Then there is ‘Stop’ or ‘Push’. You will gain nothing and lose nothing.

If you have less points than a bank, you will lose your bet.

Five special conditions

So far, you have read the basics of blackjack rules. You can often agree exactly with these rules. But before you sit down at a blackjack table, it is good to familiarize yourself with some ‘special situations’.

1) Insurance

In blackjack rules, the dealer’s open card is Ace, you can “Insurance” (purchase purchase). This insurance pays if the bank has blackjack (i.e. Ace plus 10 or more).

For insurance, you bet half more than your first bet. If you bet 10 euros, you pay 5 euros for insurance.

Insurance charges about half of your initial bet.

If the bank really has blackjack, you lose your first bet, but the insurance pays out 2 to 1. I will break even in that case: you will win or lose nothing in this round.

2) Even money

If you have an Ace and 10 or the first two cards dealt face up, then you have blackjack. They usually win 1.5 times.

But beware: if the bank has an Ace or 10 as an open card, then the bank may also have blackjack. Then you have to wait for the second card of the bank to appear.

If the bank really has blackjack, then it is equal. So: you win nothing and you lose nothing. It is unfortunate.

If the bank is Accard, the seller will ask you if you even want money for your blackjack. That means you are satisfied with 1 times more shares than 1.5 times, but you will get that profit immediately.

Even if you choose to make money, and the bank has blackjack, you are not in danger of ‘pushing’.

Even money?

Then even though the bank has blackjack, we are sure you will win.

3) Blackjack is not the same as 21 points

Note: Only if your first two cards are Ace and 10 or face, this is considered blackjack. If you collect 21 points after the game, this ‘counts’ as 21 points.

Why is this important? A blackjack rules is considered to be the highest card combination of 21 points.

Suppose you have a 6, a 7 and an 8 (together 21), but the bank has Ace and King, then unfortunately you lose.

If you have Ace and King and the bank has 10, 5 and 6 (and 21 together), you will win.

4) Paid Aces

If two Aces are split in blackjack rules, you get only one card on each Ace. You can no longer buy tickets. So fitting is a must.

If you get an Ace on one of your Ace, you can further split these cards.

If you get 10 or more on one of your Aces, this is usually not considered blackjack, but ’21’.

By the way, each casino has its own rules regarding division. Sometimes, if you are given the same card again, you will not be allowed to redistribute.

There are also casinos that are not allowed to double after splitting. If you play blackjack online, you can always click on the help function to read the practical rules.

5) Dealer blackjack checks

In online casinos and in all casinos outside of Europe, the dealer immediately receives two cards: one face and one face.

If the face-up card is 10 or Ace, ‘peeps’ in the face-down card to see if the dealer has blackjack. (With Ace, the dealer actually asks if you want to be insured in the first place.)

If the dealer actually has blackjack, the game ends immediately. Unless you have a blackjack yourself, all players lose. Then your bet will stop.

Blackjack at a Dutch casino is different. The dealer only gets one card there. The dealer receives the second card only after all players have placed their hands.

And now more…

These are the blackjack rules. After a few rounds of play, these become second nature that you no longer want to think about.

But knowing the rules of the game is one thing. It is also wise to look for the right strategy. When to pass, when to divide? Insurance is smart and if so when?

The more you learn about the right choices, the better your chances of winning.
